About AI Model Training & Fine-Tuning

What do model fine-tuning platforms do?

Model fine-tuning platforms help a team adapt an existing model to examples of a specific task. The result can be a model that follows an expected response format, classifies inputs or makes tool calls in a particular workflow. Training changes the model; a prompt-only experiment changes the instructions given to it. Decide what behavior you need before choosing infrastructure.

Compare the path from examples to tested results

Start with supported base models and data requirements. Check how a platform cleans examples, records dataset versions, separates training from held-out evaluation, and explains compatibility failures. Methods such as LoRA and full fine-tuning depend on the selected model and runtime; their availability should be checked individually.

A completed training run is only a starting point. Compare the candidate with the model you already use on the same unseen cases. Inspect incorrect outputs, missing results, task metrics, latency and inference cost alongside averages.

Check the costs and control after training

Review hosted inference, application integration, downloadable weights and the conditions for using another host. Budget for preparation, experiments, evaluation and ongoing serving separately. Open-source platform code does not make GPU compute free. For sensitive examples, inspect storage, processors, retention, deletion and licence terms. Self-hosting the application may still require external model or training providers.
