What does FlexChords actually do?

FlexChords is an AI chord finder that helps you work out the accompaniment to a recorded song. Give it a YouTube source or an audio file, and it estimates the chords, musical key and tempo. Its guitar chord diagrams and timed chord cards turn that analysis into something you can follow while listening.

It suits guitar learners working on a cover, musicians practicing by ear and producers checking a song’s harmonic outline. Treat the result as a starting point for listening and correction: the website describes its analysis as algorithmic estimates, not a guaranteed transcription of every note.

Start with a song, video or audio file

The homepage lets you search YouTube songs or artists, paste a YouTube URL, or use the audio upload control. The listed file formats are MP3, WAV, M4A and FLAC. Pick the recording you actually want to practice so the displayed changes can be checked against that version.

Follow changes instead of reading a static chord list

The interactive timeline places chords along playback. Select a chord block to return to that point, listen to the change and compare the chord diagram with what you hear. Automatic scrolling helps you follow the progression through the recording.

Key and BPM provide useful context for practice, but they are estimates too. If a chord sounds wrong, revisit that passage before building your accompaniment around it. This makes FlexChords useful for ear training as well as quickly finding an initial progression.

Correct the local draft and export timing labels

Choose Edit Chords to enter the local draft editor. Chord tiles become editable; the controls include splitting at the playhead, deleting a tile, undo, redo and resetting to the AI result. Work through the passages you want to correct while comparing them with the source.

Use Export to Save or Export DAW Labels to obtain a TXT label track with chord timing. The site identifies Audacity and Reaper compatibility. These are timing labels for further work, rather than a verified MIDI performance, printable score or complete guitar tablature. Because the editor explicitly calls the work a local draft, export the changes you want to keep instead of assuming they are saved to an account.

Check usage conditions before uploading

As of October 7, 2026, no public price table, upload allowance or file-retention policy was verified on the inspected pages. Check the current service conditions before relying on a particular quota or uploading an unreleased recording. The site positions generated analysis for personal study and practice; rights in recordings and compositions remain with their owners.
