Scrap Brain Audio: AI Sound Generator and Sampler
Generate playable samples with 2G, reshape rhythms with WHORL and explore WX synth patches.

Scrap Brain Audio makes compact desktop instruments for musicians who want to invent a sound, reshape a recording or discover a new rhythm. Its 2G instrument combines an AI sound generator with a playable sampler; WHORL and WX offer different approaches to experimental sound design.
What is Scrap Brain Audio, in plain terms?
Think of the website as a small instrument shop run by an independent studio in Istanbul. You download software to make and play sounds on your computer. In 2G, a written description becomes audio that you can trim, shape and perform on a keyboard. WHORL turns existing audio into sequenced slices, while WX creates synthesizer patches through controlled randomness.
The practical result is material for your own music production: an individual sound, a playable texture or a rhythmic idea. Choose the instrument according to that task rather than expecting every product to use the same AI generation method.
Turn a description into a playable 2G sample
2G's product page explains a workflow that continues after generation:
- Get the installer using the download form, unzip it and install the version for your system. Free setup does not require entering a license code.
- Describe the sound you want in Neural Synthesis, or import an audio file you already have.
- Trim its beginning and end. Adjust Attack and Release to control how the note starts and fades; use Brightness, Detune, Noise, Quality and Formant to change its character.
- Audition the sample on the keyboard. Root-note analysis corrects fine tuning when a consistent pitch is detected; material without a clear pitch is marked Unpitched.
- For sustained notes, listen to the proposed loop points. Up to three candidates may be offered when suitable regions are found; crossfades help soften transitions.
A switchable phone-speaker simulation adds a narrow, 16 kHz mono character. Its four voices share the speaker model, so chords interact with the same simulated speaker. This is useful when deliberately exploring small-speaker coloration; bypass it when that character does not suit the sound.
Build rhythms with WHORL and explore WX patches
WHORL analyzes a loaded recording into sharp attacks, tonal bodies and sustained textures, then triggers slices through a 16-step sequencer. Random Slices changes the selected material while keeping the rhythm; Random Pattern rebuilds the pattern and step effects. Four MIDI-switchable memories and step-assigned effects help develop variations. Its browser demo is a simulated preview, with actual processing in the software instrument.
WX suits patch exploration. Double-click its radar display to generate a new combination of oscillator, filter, envelope, movement and effects settings. It offers eight-voice polyphony and voice drift. The documented mechanism is procedural randomization; the text-to-audio AI feature belongs to 2G.
Install on your computer and check the sample limits
Specifications list Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, and macOS 11 or later on Intel or Apple Silicon. Windows versions provide VST3 and standalone operation; macOS specifications include AU, VST3 and standalone. Confirm your host's supported plug-in format before purchase.
2G imports WAV, AIFF, FLAC and MP3, with limits of 20 MB and 10 seconds per file. The original source is left untouched. Local sample editing and playback work offline; Neural Synthesis and credit verification require internet access.
Free access, Studio credits and instrument prices
Checked on October 28, 2026, with prices displayed in USD:
- 2G Free: the full sampler, unlimited use of your own samples and the Basic generation engine. The first 200 users receive 20 monthly generation credits; later users receive 20 one-time credits.
- 2G Studio: $10 per month, 200 monthly generations and the Studio engine. One successful generation costs one credit; unused Studio credits do not roll over. A seven-day trial is advertised.
- WHORL: $39 in an Autumn Sale, with $99 shown as the comparison price. No promotion end date is specified.
- WX: $24. The homepage bundle remains marked coming soon.
Using your own samples consumes no credits. Canceling Studio leaves generation available until the paid period ends; the local sampler and saved sounds remain accessible. Check the product pages and final checkout for current conditions.
Commercial music and prompt privacy
The 2G FAQ permits royalty-free use of generated sounds in personal and commercial music, while prohibiting repackaging or reselling them as standalone samples or libraries. The sale terms describe single-user software licensing and state that digital sales become nonrefundable once a download link is generated.
According to the privacy policy, generation text goes to a sound-generation provider and is retained by the studio, linked to your license, for up to 90 days before deletion. Offline sample editing and cloud generation therefore have different data paths. The policy also records anonymous device identifiers. Separately, the use terms grant broad rights over content submitted to the studio, including audio and presets; review those terms before sending unreleased material.
Frequently asked questions
How does 2G turn a description into something playable?
Neural Synthesis generates audio from your text. You then edit that audio inside the sampler and play it from a keyboard; generation is the starting point for shaping an instrument sound.
Is 2G free with unlimited AI generation?
The sampler is free and your own samples need no credits. AI generation is limited: the recurring 20-credit offer applies only to the first 200 users, while later users receive 20 credits once. Studio provides a paid monthly allowance.
Can I release music made with generated sounds?
The official 2G FAQ allows personal and commercial music use. Selling the generated sounds themselves as samples or sample libraries is prohibited.
