What this tool does

What is Pictory?

Pictory is an online AI video creation and content-repurposing platform. It turns scripts, public web pages, documents, PowerPoint slides, images, audio, and existing recordings into edited videos with stock or generated visuals, captions, music, narration, and optional AI presenters.

Unlike a tool focused only on generating cinematic clips from a prompt, Pictory is especially useful when you already have source material. Its common workflows include converting a blog post into a social video, matching a script to stock footage, extracting highlights from a webinar, editing a recording through its transcript, adding captions, and resizing a project for different channels.

Core video workflows

Pictory can generate a draft from a script or summarize a compatible public URL before dividing the text into scenes. Its AI highlights keywords and selects matching footage from Storyblocks, Getty Images, Unsplash, and Pixabay. You can replace those selections, upload your own media, change scene timing, apply a Brand Kit, add a voice-over, and export horizontal, vertical, or square video at up to 1080p on paid plans.

Other workflows include document-to-video, PowerPoint-to-video, images-to-video, automatic captions, text-based editing of recorded video, B-roll insertion, video highlights, and summarization of longer audio or video. AI Studio can generate or edit images and produce short AI video clips with models such as Flux, Seedream, Nano Banana, PixVerse, and Veo.

URL-to-video has practical restrictions. It works best with public, text-heavy pages such as blog posts, news articles, educational resources, and company pages. Login-protected pages, paywalls, social networks, search pages, forums, YouTube or Vimeo pages, and direct PDF or Word links may not import. You can usually paste the text into the script workflow instead.

AI avatars, voices, and languages

Pictory provides more than 20 stock video avatars that can narrate projects created through text, URL, image, PowerPoint, and document workflows. A partial preview keeps editing faster; the full avatar video is generated when you finalize it, after Pictory displays the credit estimate.

Professional, Team, and Enterprise customers can create a Custom Avatar and Instant Voice Clone. Training requires suitable footage or audio plus a separate consent recording. Creating the clone itself is free, but using a Custom Avatar costs 35 AI credits per 30 seconds. A stock avatar costs 15 credits per 30 seconds, while cloned narration also counts against the plan's ElevenLabs voice allowance.

Pictory offers standard voices in seven languages and premium ElevenLabs voices across 29 languages. Premium multilingual voices can narrate Chinese, but the official language guide says captions are limited to Latin script. Chinese narration is therefore possible, while native Chinese automatic captions are not currently supported.

Free trial and current pricing

Pictory does not offer a permanent free export plan. Its 14-day trial currently includes three video projects, 15 total video minutes, a five-minute maximum per generated video, 50 AI credits, five minutes of premium voice-over, and exports up to 720p. Trial downloads carry Pictory branding. When the trial ends, the account remains accessible, but video downloads require a paid subscription.

Current standard pricing is:

  • Starter: $29 month-to-month, or an effective $25 per month when billed annually. The monthly plan includes 200 export minutes, 100 AI credits, 60 ElevenLabs minutes, 5 GB storage, and one Brand Kit. The annual plan grants 2,400 export minutes, 1,200 credits, and 720 ElevenLabs minutes upfront for the year.
  • Professional: $59 month-to-month, or an effective $35 per month when billed annually. Monthly allowances include 600 export minutes, 500 AI credits, 120 ElevenLabs minutes, 20 GB storage, and five Brand Kits. The current annual offer grants 7,200 export minutes, 12,000 AI credits, and 1,440 ElevenLabs minutes upfront, plus Custom Avatars, voice cloning, advanced AI tools, and long-video summarization.
  • Team: $199 month-to-month for three or more users, or an effective $119 per month when billed annually. Monthly allowances include 1,800 shared export minutes, 2,400 AI credits, 240 ElevenLabs minutes, 100 GB storage, and ten Brand Kits. The annual plan grants 21,600 export minutes, 28,800 credits, and 2,880 ElevenLabs minutes upfront.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing, storage, minutes, credits, security, support, and interactive-video features.

The annual Professional credit allocation is presented as a current Pictory 2.0 offer and may change. Pictory says paid subscription purchases are non-refundable, so the trial should be used before committing.

AI credits and video minutes

Pictory tracks three separate resources: export video minutes, premium ElevenLabs voice minutes, and generative AI credits. Previewing and editing inside the account does not consume export minutes; the allowance is deducted when a video is exported.

Current AI credit examples include:

  • AI images: 0.6 credits for Flux Schnell, 0.7 for Amazon Titan G1, 2 for Seedream, and 4 for Nano Banana or Amazon Nova Canvas per 1920 × 1080 image.
  • AI video: 1.6 credits per second for PixVerse 720p, 10 per second for Veo 3.1 Fast 1080p, and 20 per second for Veo 3.1 1080p.
  • Avatars: 15 credits per 30 seconds for a stock avatar and 35 per 30 seconds for a Custom Avatar.

Unused AI credits roll over and do not expire while the subscription stays active. Additional recurring or prepaid credit packs are available only to paid subscribers. Model rates can make high-end Veo video substantially more expensive than stock-based projects, so check the estimate before generating.

Commercial use and licensing

Pictory states that its AI-generated content is licensed for commercial use. Its terms treat the finished Pictoried Content as Customer Content and say Pictory does not claim ownership of the material you upload. Users remain responsible for scripts, uploads, likenesses, trademarks, claims, and every other right needed for the project.

Stock visuals and music supplied through Pictory can be reproduced and distributed as part of a Pictory video under the applicable Storyblocks, Getty, and Melodie arrangements. That license is limited: third-party assets cannot be extracted or sold on a standalone basis, used in logos or trademarks, placed into resale templates or retail products, or used to train AI systems. Automated copyright systems can still flag licensed music or footage, so Pictory provides license documentation for disputes.

Custom avatars and voice clones require the subject's explicit consent. Pictory prohibits unauthorized clones, minors, unapproved celebrities, public figures or government officials, fraud, harassment, and misleading deepfakes.

Privacy and AI training

Pictory collects account information, IP and device data, approximate location, usage data, uploaded Customer Content, and the footage or audio needed for avatar and voice cloning. Its production data is hosted in the United States, and international users should expect their information to be transferred there. Infrastructure and operational providers include services such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Stripe, and PayPal.

The Terms say Pictory will not use Customer Content or finished Pictoried Content to train or fine-tune its general machine-learning models unless the user expressly agrees in writing. Pictory may use content in a non-identifiable, aggregated manner for evaluation, diagnostics, service improvement, and feature development. Consent recordings and clone assets may be processed by third-party subprocessors for identity verification and generation.

The privacy policy does not promise a fixed deletion schedule for every content type. It says personal information is retained as long as needed for the stated purposes or legal obligations. Customers handling confidential, regulated, biometric, or client-owned material should review Pictory's current subprocessors and enterprise security terms before uploading it.

Main limitations

  • There is no permanent free export tier; the trial lasts 14 days and trial videos contain branding.
  • Paid plans cap generated videos at 30 minutes, and the trial caps them at five minutes.
  • Export minutes, ElevenLabs minutes, and AI credits are separate quotas.
  • High-quality generative video, especially Veo, can consume credits rapidly.
  • Automatic footage matching can be generic or contextually wrong and should be reviewed scene by scene.
  • Some URLs cannot be imported, including paywalled, login-protected, social, forum, video-platform, and document links.
  • Chinese can be narrated with multilingual premium voices, but Chinese automatic captions are not supported.
  • Full avatar rendering happens late in the workflow and consumes credits based on total duration.
  • AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or non-unique and requires human review.
  • Third-party stock is licensed only inside compliant Pictory videos, not as standalone media.
  • Paid subscription purchases are non-refundable.
  • Production data is hosted in the United States, which may not suit every data-residency requirement.

Pictory is best for marketers, educators, course teams, bloggers, podcasters, and faceless-video creators who want to repurpose existing material rather than build every scene on a traditional editing timeline. It is less suitable when you need unrestricted cinematic generation, native Chinese captions, long videos beyond 30 minutes, or a predictable cost for frequent premium-model generations.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pictory free?

Pictory offers a 14-day trial rather than a permanent free plan. It currently includes three projects, 15 total video minutes, 50 AI credits, a five-minute maximum video length, and branded exports. Downloads stop after the trial unless you subscribe.

How much does Pictory cost?

Monthly billing starts at $29 for Starter, $59 for Professional, and $199 for Team. Current annual effective rates are $25, $35, and $119 per month respectively. Enterprise pricing is custom.

What is the difference between credits and video minutes?

Video minutes measure the duration you export. AI credits pay for generated images, video clips, and avatars. ElevenLabs voice minutes are a third, separate allowance for premium narration and cloned voices.

Does Pictory create AI avatar videos?

Yes. It offers stock presenters and, on Professional or higher plans, Custom Avatars and voice cloning. Stock avatars cost 15 credits per 30 seconds and Custom Avatars cost 35 credits per 30 seconds.

Can I use Pictory videos commercially?

Yes, subject to Pictory's terms and third-party rights. Pictory licenses its generated content for commercial use, while stock assets must remain embedded in the finished video and cannot be redistributed on their own.

Does Pictory support Chinese?

Premium multilingual ElevenLabs voices can narrate Chinese. However, Pictory's official language guide says captions support Latin script only, so native Chinese automatic captions are not currently available.

Does Pictory train AI models on my content?

Pictory's terms say it will not train or fine-tune its general AI or machine-learning models on Customer Content or finished videos unless the customer expressly agrees in writing. It may use non-identifiable aggregated material for service improvement.

Do Pictory credits roll over?

Yes. Unused AI credits roll over and remain available while the paid subscription stays active. This does not mean export-minute or ElevenLabs-minute allowances follow the same rule.
