What does Willow Voice actually do?

Willow Voice is an app that lets you write by speaking. Put your cursor in an email, document or chat, say what you want to write, and Willow inserts editable text there. Its website is the place to learn about the product and download it; the main desktop workflow runs through the installed app.

There are two useful starting points. Dictation cleans up the words you speak. Scribe takes an instruction about what you want to communicate and creates a fuller draft. This makes Willow relevant to people who spend their day replying to messages, developing ideas or composing prompts across different applications.

Willow is provided by Willow Care, Inc.

Write your first email with voice typing

  1. Download the appropriate desktop app and complete its setup.
  2. Open a draft email and place the cursor in the message field.
  3. Hold your configured Willow hotkey, then speak your message naturally.
  4. Release the hotkey so the text appears at the cursor.
  5. Check names, dates, amounts and the intended meaning before sending.

For a useful first test, dictate a short reply you would normally type. Include one name and a date, then assess how much correction it needs. This is a suggested evaluation task, not a claim that we tested your device or accent.

Make spoken drafts easier to reuse

Willow adds punctuation, removes filler words and formats the result. Its dictionary learns names, product terms and abbreviations, while shortcuts let you insert frequently used phrases. These features are useful when the same terminology or response appears repeatedly in your work.

The product also adapts writing style to different apps. Its developer feature uses code context to help recognize file names, variables and functions. Treat the result as a draft: technical identifiers and factual details still deserve a check.

Use Scribe when you have an intention, not a finished sentence

Activate the Scribe hotkey and explain the message you want to create. For example, you could ask for a concise reply confirming availability tomorrow, while supplying the actual time yourself. Scribe uses application and surrounding context to draft the response.

For revisions, select existing text and describe the change: shorten it, make the tone more formal or add a detail. Review the rewritten passage before using it. This is a writing workflow; the reviewed feature page does not establish a meeting-recording or subtitle-export workflow.

Check your device, language and offline needs

The official download page provides Mac, Windows and iPhone options. Android was still listed as coming soon on October 8, 2026. The US iPhone listing requires iOS 18 or later; local storefront availability can differ.

Dictation advertises more than 100 languages and an on-device offline mode. The public feature page does not provide a complete device-and-language matrix for offline use. Check your version before relying on it, and do not assume Scribe shares all offline capabilities. Speech recognition languages are also separate from the app's interface language.

Choose between Basic, Pro and team plans

Checked October 8, 2026: Basic includes unlimited dictation with the lower-capability Frontier Mini model, limited personalization and 20 Scribe uses per week. Unlimited basic dictation does not mean every premium feature is free.

Pro adds Frontier Pro, priority transcription, writing-style memory, unlimited Scribe and longer dictations. With monthly billing selected, the website lists US$15 per user per month. Annual billing, taxes and storefront prices can differ; confirm the current plans at checkout.

Business adds enforced privacy and team controls. Enterprise is quoted individually. The pricing FAQ says subscriptions can be managed in Plan & Billing and remain active through the paid period after cancellation.

Understand what Private Mode covers

The privacy policy describes Private Mode as the default: dictated audio is processed temporarily, while dictated text and screen content are not retained in that mode. Account and operational data are still collected to run the service.

If you opt into Help Improve Willow, anonymized recognized text and limited usage data may be retained to improve its text-correction models; audio is excluded. Online processing uses US cloud infrastructure. A retention promise should therefore not be read as a guarantee that every feature runs locally.

Common questions

Is Willow free to use?

Yes. Basic is free, with Frontier Mini dictation and 20 Scribe uses each week. Pro is a separate paid upgrade.

Can I use Willow on an iPhone?

Yes, there is an iPhone app. Check the App Store requirement and availability for your region; the US listing currently requires iOS 18 or later.

Can voice typing write directly into my apps?

That is the main desktop workflow. Willow names Gmail, Slack, Notion, Cursor and iMessage as examples; try it in the text fields you use most.
