Elai.io is a browser-based AI avatar video generator designed for training, onboarding, customer education, explainers, presentations, and personalized business communication. You can type a script, import a URL, upload a PowerPoint or PDF, or start from a prompt, then turn the material into narrated scenes with a digital presenter.

The platform combines more than 80 stock avatars, over 75 languages, hundreds of synthetic voices, templates, automatic translation, captions, screen recording, and an editor. Its strongest distinction is learning-oriented interactivity: videos can include buttons, hotspots, quizzes, branching paths, and analytics instead of remaining passive MP4 files.

Pricing, free plan, and video credits

Elai.io uses prepaid subscriptions measured in video minutes, which the pricing FAQ also calls credits. Prices can change, so verify the live pricing page before purchasing.

At the time reviewed, the Free plan included one user, one video minute, 80+ avatars, 75+ languages, and Creator features. Creator cost $29 per month for 15 minutes, one user, Full HD video, and the full avatar, voice, and language library. Team started at $125 per month for 50 minutes, three editors plus three guests, 4K, premium voices, custom images and fonts, and a brand kit. Team can also be configured for 100 or 150 minutes. Enterprise is quote-based.

Annual billing reduced the effective price to $23 per month for Creator, billed $276 annually, and $100 per month for Team, billed $1,200 annually. A Team annual subscription includes one Selfie Avatar and one Voice Clone. Current add-on prices were $500 per year for a Studio Avatar, $199 per year for a Selfie Avatar, and $200 per year for Voice Cloning.

Every render consumes minutes, including re-rendering the same project after an edit. Deleting a video does not restore credits. Paid subscribers can buy extra minutes for $2 each, but Elai does not offer ordinary pay-as-you-go use without an active subscription. Unused paid minutes are forfeited at the end of the applicable billing cycle and do not roll over. Elai says unlimited annual minutes may be available through an Enterprise arrangement.

Commercial use and ownership caution

Elai's marketing pages show business use cases such as employee training, marketing, customer education, and e-commerce. However, the current public Website Terms of Service, updated March 13, 2026, grant website and service access only for personal, non-commercial use and do not provide a clear, separate ownership grant for generated output. They also state that Elai owns the service and its content, excluding user-submitted content.

This creates an important ambiguity for commercial publishing. Businesses should not assume that a paid self-service plan alone supplies every necessary commercial right. Obtain written confirmation from Elai covering the selected plan, generated videos, stock avatars, voices, templates, music, and distribution channels, or use an enterprise agreement with explicit rights.

Users remain responsible for their uploaded material. Elai's Acceptable Use Policy requires users or their organizations to own the content or hold the necessary licenses and to obtain all permissions and consents needed to create, process, and distribute it. The Terms give Elai a broad worldwide license to process and display User Content for the purpose of including it in the website or services, and users should keep their own backups.

Real-person and voice consent

Custom avatars are based on real footage. Elai's official custom-avatar guidance says the depicted person must give explicit consent and that submitted footage is screened before the avatar is released for private use. The current Acceptable Use Policy independently requires all necessary permissions and consents for avatars, videos, audio, and other User Content.

Use the same standard for voice cloning: only submit a voice recording when the speaker has knowingly authorized both cloning and the intended uses. Do not use Elai to impersonate someone, create deceptive endorsements, or distribute a person's face or voice beyond the consent they gave. Organizations should preserve consent records and provide a revocation process.

Privacy and data retention

Elai's Website Privacy Policy says it collects account and contact information, payment details, device and usage data, and information associated with using the service. Its security page adds that scripts, text, photos, videos, and music uploaded to the editor or API are collected. Elai says its data and backups are stored in United States data centers using providers such as AWS and DigitalOcean.

The privacy policies do not promise one universal retention period; they say personal data may be retained for a lawfully permitted period needed for legal, contractual, security, and dispute purposes. The pricing FAQ gives a more specific product rule: after a paid subscription is canceled, rendered projects remain available to watch, share, and download for one year, but cannot be edited or rendered again. Elai's security page says account deletion deletes all user data. Cancellation and account deletion therefore have different consequences.

The public policies reviewed do not make an explicit no-training commitment for uploaded content. Teams handling confidential, biometric, or regulated material should ask Elai in writing about model-training use, subprocessors, deletion timing, data location, and enterprise data-processing terms before uploading it.
