What does TheySaid do, in plain English?

TheySaid is an AI user testing and research platform for product managers, designers and UX researchers. Give it a learning goal and something to evaluate, such as a website or prototype, and it helps prepare tasks, moderate conversations and organize findings. The practical question is whether people understand your product and where their experience breaks down.

It also brings conversational surveys, asynchronous interviews, forms and polls into the research workflow. A useful starting point is a specific decision, such as checking whether new visitors can understand pricing and finish registration.

Choose the evidence your decision needs

Invite your own customers or recruit people through a panel when you need lived experience and real motivations. The 4.0 release also introduces synthetic testers that use a product and return screen and spoken feedback. These can help narrow early options and find obvious friction before human recruitment.

Keep those evidence sources distinct. Simulated reactions do not establish market demand or predict conversion. Older feature and pricing pages still label some synthetic capabilities as coming soon, so check access and entitlements in your actual account. Important launch decisions warrant validation with real target users.

Run a first study you can act on

  1. Define one question and an observable task. Prepare an accessible product or prototype URL and describe the intended audience.
  2. Add relevant documents or URLs through Teach AI if you have permission to share them.
  3. Use the AI project creator workflow to draft tasks and questions. Review wording, links and settings before publishing.
  4. Select a participant source and share the study. Explain recording and data use to human participants.
  5. Review findings alongside the original recordings and responses. Change the design and repeat the task to see whether the problem remains.

Treat a finding as useful when you can connect it to evidence and a proposed change, rather than merely accepting a generated summary.

Ask why with conversational surveys and interviews

Surveys can follow up on an answer instead of stopping at a rating. Supported question types include ratings, multiple choice, ranking, open text and image choices. Voice responses can be transcribed. Asynchronous interviews let participants respond at a convenient time, with configurable follow-up depth.

TheySaid advertises more than 70 languages. Pilot the actual questions and terminology before a multilingual rollout; language coverage does not guarantee that every research design transfers between markets.

Survey participants can respond in a desktop or mobile browser without installing an app.

Move findings into product work

Analysis groups recurring problems and themes, with severity, frequency and recommendations for user tests. Clips and highlight reels let colleagues inspect key moments. The 4.0 release describes MCP access and ticket-triggered testing; cross-project Ask AI and custom API/webhook capabilities have plan conditions. Confirm the required integration before buying.

Free limits and purchasing conditions

Checked on October 29, 2026, the public USD pricing page lists 5 AI user tests per month, one workspace and one active test on Free, without a credit card. Panel recruitment costs extra. Enterprise uses custom annual pricing, and hard-to-recruit participants can add costs.

The Free card and comparison table disagree about survey entitlements. Verify those limits and synthetic-test access in the account instead of treating a headline allowance as guaranteed.

Check data handling before uploading recordings

Section 7 of the privacy policy describes model improvement using organization survey data and an owner/admin objection control in Data & Privacy. Other passages refer to explicit training consent, so the policy is internally inconsistent. Obtain clarification for sensitive research; do not assume a blanket no-training policy. Subscription expiry also does not automatically delete organization data. You need the rights and permissions to submit participant information.

Common questions

Is TheySaid free?

There is a limited Free tier. Recruitment, enterprise integrations and additional usage have separate conditions; survey allowances need confirmation.

Can synthetic testers replace customers?

Use them for preliminary checks and iteration. Real people remain important for validating motivations and consequential product decisions.

How does the AI ask follow-up questions?

Conversational surveys probe responses for context; interviews let you configure follow-up depth. Review the questions before sending the study.
